Transitioning to a new home is very stressful for a puppy. I will list some things to observe during the first 48 hours.
1. Make sure your puppy eats within 12 hours of getting him home. Mix a little canned puppy food or chicken baby food with his kibble to get him started if he seems uninterested. CALL ME if this does not work. He should not go longer than 12 hours without eating.
2. Your puppy may be scared so keep the house quiet . Do not let the kids or other animals scare him. Do not take him to pet smart or show him off to the neighborhood until he has settle in.
3. Allow him rest. Keep it quiet and calm.
4. Note anything unusual and call me. It is common for puppies to get car sick but this should stop once you are home. It is normal for puppies to not want to eat right away but do not let it go past 12 hours.
5. Introduce him to the house slowly. Too much room can be overwhelming at first. He needs to feel safe and secure.
6. Educate yourself with a condition called "Hypoglycemia" You need to know the symptoms, what to do about it, and how to prevent it.
